Ron Herman has been reappointed to serve on the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel for a three year term. Ron was twice previously selected to serve as the prestigious CJA Panel attorney. The Southern District is the federal court in South Florida, with court locations in Fort Pierce, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Miami, and Key West. The CJA Panel is made up of private attorneys, approved by the chief federal judge, who are authorized to serve as appointed defense counsel pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 3006A. Membership is highly selective and based on a rigorous vetting process.
Selection to the CJA Panel
The CJA Panel Selection Committee recommend candidates to the CJA Panel. The Selection Committee is made up of federal judges, private attorneys, and the Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Florida. The Selection Committee serves at the pleasure of the federal court and thoroughly evaluates applicants for the coveted three-year term. The Selection Committee recommends candidates who have “demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of, the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and the Federal Rules of Evidence” and have significant criminal trial experience. Ron is honored to accept the reappointment and continue to represent eligible defendants in federal criminal cases.
